  • Clouded out.

Even after a 12ish hour soak in a bright but clouded over sky not even a bar of charge. Does work great in intense sunlight. Bring something to back it up! Don’t rely on it solely.
  • Worked perfectly

I brought this for a 6-day wilderness rafting trip in Desolation Canyon in Utah. It is the lightest weight battery and solar panel setup that I looked at. It was easy to lay the solar panel on top of our cooler as we floated the river, and it wasn’t a problem to fold it up occasionally when we went through a splashy rapid. In a day on the river, I was able to charge the battery enough for one night of CPAP. In order to have multiple options I also brought a second CPAP battery that could only be charged using a wall outlet. During the trip I used the Medistrom (solar panel) battery three nights, and on the other three nights I tested the other one. They both worked perfectly and gave me CPAP power for the whole night. I think the Medistrom battery and solar panel would be good for a much longer wilderness trip, whereas the other battery I tried was enough for three days and after that it would need a wall outlet to recharge. The Medistrom setup weighs less than 4 lb, and I did not see a lighter weight option advertised. The Medistrom battery and solar panel are expensive. I personally do not know enough about electrical engineering to build a comparable system from parts. But that could be much cheaper if you know what you’re doing.
