ResMed AirCurve 10 VAuto BiPAP Machine with Card-to-Cloud

A BiLevel CPAP device has the enhanced ability for separate pressure ranges to be set for inhalation (IPAP) and exhalation (EPAP). The dual settings allow for the patient to get even more air in and out of their lungs due to this. This more granular control of pressure can translate into an even more enhanced and comfortable therapy experience especially for those that experience higher inbound pressure on inhalation. BiLevel devices also have the unique ability to set a breath timing feature that measures the amount of breaths per minute a person should be taking compared to reality. If the time between breaths exceeds the set limit, the machine can then force the person to breathe more by temporarily increasing the air pressure by delivering back-up pressure.

BiLevel Therapy tends to benefit individuals with a need for higher pressure settings or with low oxygen levels or who have had difficulty adapting to CPAP therapy on a standard non-BiLevel device.

BiLevel / BIPAP therapy can also apply to individuals with cardiopulmonary disorders such as congestive heart failure, lung disorders or certain neuromuscular disorders.

People with higher inhalation pressure ranges often find a BiLevel device to be more comfortable during sleep apnea therapy due to the ability of the BiLevel device to have a different pressure range set of exhalation. By allowing the device to reduce the pressure on exhalation, the overall CPAP therapy experience is much more comfortable and often more efficacious.

Expiratory Pressure Relief (EPR) is similar to BiLevel therapy in that it offers pressure relief as you exhale to prevent the sensation that you are fighting against the incoming airflow during exhalation. However, EPR on the AirSense™ 10 devices is more of a comfort feature that only offers pressure relief up to 3 cm, whereas BiLevel pressure relief on the AirCurve™ 10 starts at 4 cm and can go further up. For those who need only a slight amount or little pressure relief, EPR on an AutoSet™ device may be the perfect solution. Also, with EPR pressure, relief is not a fixed amount and the pressure drop can vary from breath to breath, whereas the AirCurve™ 10 maintains a set, prescribed exhalation pressure.

There seems to be some confusion about the term BIPAP™ and how it differs from the term BiLevel. Simply put, these are in actual fact the same thing and are often used interchangeably. The names associated with the device will tend to vary somewhat based on the manufacturer. An example of this would be that the manufacturer, Respironics, has registered BiPAP™ as a trademark name for their technology that is generically called BiLevel. The other major competitor, ResMed, calls similar devices VPAP. This includes the AirCurve™ 10 which is a BiLevel device. Although the names are different, the technology and principal functions essentially remain the same.

The AirCurve™ 10 VAuto has disposable filters that should be evaluated and replaced once per month or sooner depending on wear and tear. We also recommend that you replace your CPAP tubing at least a few times per year and your water chamber reservoir at least once a year for optimal hygiene and CPAP therapy performance. The AirCurve™ 10 VAuto is compatible with nearly all mask interfaces currently available on the market today and is not manufacturer specific. This means that because this is a ResMed CPAP device, it does not mean that you are limited to a ResMed mask interface. The choice is yours.

This BiLevel device features built-in cellular connectivity, so an additional wireless module to transfer data isn't required which makes this device even more cost effective. Sleep Apnea Therapy data is automatically uploaded to AirView™, ResMed's cloud-based patient management system for registered healthcare providers. All therapy data is available up to one hour after the sleep therapy session has been completed.

The ResMed AirCurve™ 10 is equipped with an SD card slot. With a compatible ResMed SD card, the device will automatically store your therapy data. Once it's time to review the data, you can take this card to either your doctor or medical specialist and they can upload the data to AirView™ for review.

The AirCurve™ 10 will continue to function normally and safely as before without water, however, humidifcation will not occur.

The ResMed AirCurve™ 10 meets with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements in all stages of air travel, so you can carry your device on board an airplane either as carry-on luggage or use it during the flight.
